CJS Architects to Lead Transformation of Iconic Buffalo News Building into Golisano Institute

We are proud to announce our role in the adaptive reuse of the former Buffalo News building at 125 Washington Street. Working with the Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship, CJS Architects has designed a $10 million renovation to transform 83,700 square feet of the Brutalist landmark into a cutting-edge educational hub.

Our design focuses on honoring the building’s original 1970s character while modernizing the interior for the next generation of leaders. The renovation of the first, fourth, and fifth floors will introduce high-tech classrooms, collaboration zones, and a new forum with stadium seating for the Institute's "Speaking from Experience" series. By retaining the original precast concrete, windows, and unique ceiling elements, we are ensuring this architectural staple remains a vital part of Buffalo’s skyline as it pivots from newsprint to entrepreneurship and AI education.

The project is slated for completion this August, just in time to welcome the Institute’s inaugural Buffalo class.
