Winkler & Samuel’s is a boutique wine destination consisting of; wine store on the first floor, over 900 wine storage lockers in the cellar below, a beautiful tasting room for wine education and event space for private parties.
They have products ranging from reasonably priced to high end, carefully sourced from around the world focusing on quality not quantity.
Over the past few years the area has seen a resurgence of the old industrial and manufacturing buildings into office and commercial space. Despite the current renaissance of the Hydraulic District the area was lacking a wine store.
Inside 500 Seneca, Winkler & Samuel’s has exposed brick walls, revealed plumbing, natural hardwood and polished concrete floors. The historic restorations pays homage to the history of the space and incorporates the existing elements while still making improvements, adding design components, and repurposing for modern day use. In the store the wine racks not only allow the cork to be moist at all time but are also laid to show the label for easy identification. Under the store is the building’s basement with exposed stone foundation walls. It is utilized as a wine cellar, containing over 900 private lockers in the temperature and humidity controlled environment. Off of the wine cellar is the W&S tasting room with a large farm style table for big gatherings and access to the courtyard. The event space is also located in the basement, which came with design challenges as there are no windows for natural light.
